Two killed by army in assam

Doubts raised over informers’ credibility GUWAHATI, Jan 29 – The unfortunate killing of two persons in Army firing at Sialmari char near Hajo brought into sharp focus the credibility of the informers used by the security forces to spot insurgents during the anti-insurgency operations as in the past also such unfortunate incidents occurred in the State because of the mistakes of the informers. Two persons were killed and seven others received bullet injuries when Army men opened fire on a mob, which attacked them in a case of mistaken identity at Gaonbura pam village in Sialmari char near Hajo in Kamrup district in the early hours of January 26.Official sources admitted that the Army team belonging to 18 Grenadiers came from Mukalmua for conducting a raid in the village, but they did not inform the police or civil authorities about the raid. The Army men could have informed either the Mukalmua police station or the Sualkuchi river police post to avoid the misunderstanding, but they did not do so, which is one of the causes for the incident. Three persons, who acted as the informer of the Army and brought the team to the village, have already been arrested by police on the basis of an FIR filed by the villagers and one of them has been identified as Lalchand, who was allegedly involved in several dacoity cases in the area and was in the wanted list of the police.Sources said that the Army team first knocked at the door of the house of one Akbar Ali, a local farmer, the Army men, who also opened fire in killing two persons on the spot and seven others received serious injuries. The incident occurred at around 4 am when it was quite dark and only when the daylight came, the people recognised the villagers and stopped the attack. The villagers told the Government officials, who went to enquire about the incident that Lalchand was roughed up by the people of the village once and there is a strong possibility that he led the Army team to the village to settle personal scores. The Army claimed that they managed to recover two weapons from the village, the claim that the villagers vehemently denied. The villagers are now demanding that the authorities should take immediate steps to check dacoities in the area, which is a favourite hunting ground for the dacoits because the distance of the area from the police post, the nearest of which is located more than 15 kilometres away. The Government has ordered a probe into the incident and official sources admitted that proper coordination between the security forces and the police is a must to avoid occurrence of such incidents in future. It may be mentioned here that in the past also such incidents occurred in the State and in Dehkuria village in Kamrup district in 2002, five persons were killed when villagers attacked the Army in a similar case of mistaken identity
The persons who died were muslims and the five persons who were killed by army in Dehkuria village were also muslims , are there any connection between fanatics hindus and army .
