Influx, conversion hurting NE: Rithambara
By a Staff ReporterGUWAHATI, Jan 10: Sadhvi Rithambara, convenor of the All India Durgavahini and a firebrand Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, has said that influx of fundamentalist Islamic elements is creating a conflicting tendency in the region. Talking exclusively to The Sentinel recently, the Sadhvi said that Islamic fundamentalists are trying to give a new twist to the movement being carried out in the region against influx of Bangladeshi migrants. There is a clear-cut design by these fundamentalist groups to weaken this movement, she added.
She said that the separatist movement in the North-east and the massive conversion in the name of religion are weakening the unity of the nation. She termed these problems as burning issues and sought the active participation of the people to ward off these fundamentalists. She said that Bhartiyata should be innate in all Indians, only then can the nation grow strong. She accused the Christian missionaries of indulging in mass-scale conversions taking advantage of the ‘absence’ of Hinduism in the region. She said that the people of North-east should become conscious of this rising danger and confront the Missionaries. She, however, said that rather than investing the energies of the people in things religious, "we should strive to help ameliorate the poor and the needy". She also accused a certain categories of people with vested interests of trying to weaken Hindutva and nationalism in the region.
She termed her bond with the city of Guwahati as emotional and unforgettable. She lauded Mahapurush Sankardeva for translating the Bhagwat Gita into Assamese thereby making Krishna teaching known to people of the region.
She rued the overall dominance of criminal and selfish elements. "Political parties have become narrower in their interest despite reaching out to people in all nooks and corners of the country ", she said. She also urged the political parties to shun narrow considerations in the larger interest of the nation. She expressed her surprise at the reticence of all political parties on issues of national interest. She said that these parties owe an explanation to the people. The Sadhvi, however, came down heavily on the Left parties and cautioned the people against their growing influence. She candidly admitted that the BJP and the NDA had failed to deliver during their tenure at the Centre. She said that the nation was now looking forward to a political party that could provide direction to the country. Drawing a philosophical parallel, she said whereas political parties worked as scissors cutting people and relationships, saints and sages work like the needle sewing people’s torn lives together. She cautioned the people of Assam to understand the fact that Assam cannot grow strong by emasculating nationalism. Instead, she felt, the State can only grow together with the nation.
She also exhorted the women of the world to unite and seek power to improve their lot. She, however, cautioned the women of India not to copy the women from Western countries in all their deeds but to retain the best characteristics of the oriental and the occidental.
